Pictured is a spur of sidewalk along Kirklynn Ave that terminates at the intersection of Kennewick Ave. This isn’t the only truncated sidewalk in the New Hampshire Gardens neighborhood of Ward 6, and it’s a mystery why the would-be sidewalks network has so many loose ends.
The image doubles as a visual metaphor for the Takoma Park adhocracy, mentioned earlier, that puts this project in jeopardy on a weekly basis. A vocal minority of residents in other wards have been raising a stink over sidewalks in general, so it will be interesting to see how the City Council responds. Ward 6 was given permission to finish the design process, but there is no budget for construction. I’m comfortable with that, since the project is still in the public process phase of gathering input; first things first.
